stark stairing mad

I am now learning about staris in AC. I have two here in the attached jpeg: the one one the upper left was a stock one, and is good EXCEPT that I don't want the top tread of the lower run to be integral to the landing. I went ahead into stairmaker and made the other one in the lower right, which is parametrically and 3D-ly what i want, but it is NOT represented correctly in plan...yet I don't seem to have the opportunity to change the settings as I do with the prefab GDL stair. What gives?

It has to do with the story sensitivity of the stair and the option Show on
You can find the answer in page 217 on the ArchiCAD 9 reference Guide.
It is on a folder called Graphisoft documentation usually nside the path
ProgramFiles/Graphisoft/ArchiCAD9/...

hi,
got that, story sensitivity switch, thanks. read the guide, too. but the stair is not very refined, right: wehereas the pre-fab stair GDLs are more finessed in their representation. And it appears I can't change the font or color or size. or even make the text disappear. Is that true?

The pre-fab Stairs of AC9 were developed later than StairMaker, which is a couple of years old now.
The advancement may come from this fact.

hmm. Ok. It is my understanding that there are add-ons which can be purchased which will enable AC to work like I want it to. Is there a preferred stair-construction add-on? Survey says...?

cigraph's archiStair

(there is also cadimage's stair builder, but i haven't had any experience with it to be able to comment.)

my opinion: stairs are such complicated components that no object or add-on can yet provide enough flexibility to 'build' every staircase from them and have it display well in documentation.

Agreed, archiben. I use cadimage's StairBuilder (formerly Theometric's StairBuilder) and generally like it. It has done every stair I've needed including radius, etc. The REAL power of the stairbuilder approach is that you can change one element on 1 or 100 stairs in a project with a few clicks. That is fantastic. The interface is complex but it does allow powerful customization. However, the 2d representation is an issue (no masking fills or much font control, etc) and it's expensive. Still, I would pay more for something that addressed all these needs.

Are you listening Cadimage? I'm more than ready for a StairBuilder 4.0 upgrade.....

Cigraph ArchiStair, with StairBuilder second.

ah, the old Scaled Symbol Neutral trick! Only I also have to have the "detals" off.
And thank you all for the stair-building-add-on recommendations!
