Cut line pen for complex profile

I've been messing around with converting our office's many composite walls into a handful of complex profile walls with offset modifiers to add/subtract/adjust layer thickness. So, instead of having two separate composite wall types with different GWB thickness or quantity, we would just have one where the layer thicknesses (or presence) could be adjusted. This has been working fine except that I want the entire wall to show a thick outline (cut line pen) regardless of which layer is on the outside.

I am able to change the line pen for individual edges of layers in the complex profile, but this doesn't help since it has to be based on whether the layer is on the outside. I could draw a line at the outside edge of the profile, but as far as I can tell, lines don't show up in plan.

Does anyone know how to get this to work? See the attached image showing the issue... (sure I could remove the inner GWB layer, but what if I want to get rid of both?)
