Can't Connect to Bimserver

Following a few years of using standalone computers, we have installed the Bimserver on another server/computer, and can't connect. We have followed instructions re profiles, permissions, etc on the ArchicadWiki Teamwork notes, but are unable to log onto the server using the username/password which was set up for the Bimserver. The error message is
Warning "You do not have access to this server". When attempting to create new user it says "you have entered an invalid user name or password".
All ports have been forwarded to Bimserver. firewalls checked and turned off, network connectivity between client computer and server computer is fine. The only change was that it couldn't use port 16001, and we directed it to port 5000 (the discovery port). Any clues??? Thank you

Just something to try. Change the name of the BimServer(not the computer) in its settings to custom and use that name to connect the clients.

Thanks Eduardo for your reply. We changed the Bimserver name and rebooted, but still get the same message. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Changed to a new custom port (89). Troubleshoot server connection says Basic communication okay, basic network okay, teamwork communication error. The error details are "cannot connect to the server on our dedicated ports. A firewall or other software or hardware appliance is blocking the traffic on port 89. Please check your firewall settings" By the way, all firewalls have been disabled on both machines.

Our office server uses Windows Small Business Server. It seems that AC16 wants to use the port being used by Exchange (16001), but when we tell it to use another discovery port (5000) it keeps going back to the default because it knows something is there and just hangs for ages. It finally says we cannot connect, and thats that. Anyone run into this one before?

It might be possible that after you changed the port a rogue BIM Server service remained running. Often restarting the machine is the best way around this problem.

Though there is something more problematic in the long run than your port issue. You mention that you have installed the BIM Server on a Windows Small Business Server and it is running an Exchange server. My guess is that the OS is also 32-bit. Your teamwork experience will probably suffer with this choice, since the BIM Server is sensitive to hard disk availability. The Exchange server at times can seriously occupy the hard disk's resources. If the OS is 32-bit then you only have 4 GB of memory, for which a substantial portion of that is also devoted to Exchange.

The performance of Teamwork on such a system will suffer periodically. You don't need to run the BIM Server on a "Server" operating system.

Thanks Ed

we tried removing Bimserver from the server machine and installing it on the client machine instead, to avoid going through the server machine, but still exactly the same thing happens. The server seems to occupy the default port and Archicad won't stop trying to access it all the time.
There must be a little setting somewhere.......??

There is one other often overlooked issue.

-- Virus Checkers --

The ones that seem to be the most troublesome are Bit Defender and AVG. These will block ports as well. See if this is the source of the problem. If it is, then you will have to tinker with the virus checker. I'm afraid I don't know what settings will make the above two compatible with the BIM Server.
