Teamwork Project not opening on PCs but are fine on Mac

Hi there,

I've had a reoccurring problem with Archicad for the past 8 years. I'm currently using Archicad 28, but I've had this issue since Archicad 20 at least. About halfway through almost every project, a teamwork project that I'm working on becomes unopenable on my computer, and other PC computers, but still works fine on MACs.

There are different error messages that pop up, but usually it's something like “The project on the server has been damaged and became unusable. You must restore the project from a pervious server backup”.

Sometimes it will open when I try 15-20 times and works fine. Sometimes it works when I unplug an ethernet cord. Or sometimes, like this time, it just never opens again from my computer, and the error message pops up every time at the “Get content - 3| Merging data…” phase of opening.

I've tried deleting all local data, restarting archicad and my computer, and tried opening the project from other PCs in the office, and it doesn't work. We've tried saving a solo project, but I still can't open that solo project.

When I ask coworkers with a MAC to open the teamwork project, it works fine. When I log into my profile on a MAC, it opens the project just fine.

My theory is that there is a MAC link that is created at some point, and the PC cannot read it. So the day before this happened, someone on a MAC added a hotlink to a revit model from the google drive on their MAC. So it created a Mac-based hotlink “macuser/etc.”. And so I'm assuming when you try to open it from a PC, it can't find that hotlink, and gives the error.

The hole in my theory is that we've tried removing the hotlinks and then opening it again on the PC, but I'm still getting the same error message, so I'm not sure if that's for sure the problem. Perhaps if there is some remnants of the hotlink that's still causing the issue? The hotlink manager is empty, so likely not.

Please let me know if there is anything else I could try, or if you know of any other reason why this might only be happening with PCs.

Thank you,

Cody

You could also check the Drawing Manager for the sources of those placed Drawings. They can also be external files.

Also, the XREF Manager could have links to external DWG/DXF files.

missing hotlink paths are a common occurence, and I've not seen them ever prevent a file from opening. I HAVE seen warnings you have described, both on mac and pc.
I started a thread here a little over a year ago on the various t/w and BIMcloud errors and warnings I've been seeing. It's definitely not exclussively a PC or Mac thing. I'm not sure what the communication issue is that would prevent access on the PC side, but I can't imagine it being a drawing or hotlink... then again, I've spent the better part of the last year and a half chasing t/w warnings with no success...
If the solution is "don't use hotlinks or external drawings", then it is a bug that needs to be fixed ASAP.

Once the hotlinks were removed, it still wouldn't open after trying 4 times. But the next day, I tried to open it and it worked right away. Someone else then re-added the hotlinks, except this time, they put the revit file on the Bimcloud server first, and then the minute I tried to send/recieve, it gave me the error message again, and I can no longer open it anymore. So it really does seem to be a hotlink problem. Again, all the Macs in our office can still open the teamwork file without any problems.
