joining a bimcloud server with an external license

Emre Senoglu
Expert

I am currently trying to join the bimcloud of a new collaborator, however I get an error saying that "the bimcloud was not able to reserve a license". I have my own license, so my AC runs fine. Does this mean that my collaborator has to have a free license for me? Is there a way for me to use my own license without making him buy a new one just for me? thank you

Is this a BIMcloud (Paid) server as opposed to a BIMCloud Basic server you are trying to connect to?

If so they will likely don't have enough spare BIMCloud (Paid) licenses, or have it set to manual BIMCloud license assignment and need to allocate one to your user in BIMCloud manually?

BIMCloud (Paid) licenses are independent to the ArchiCAD licenses.

If you already have your own BIMCloud (Paid) licenses, they are fixed to a specific BIMCloud (Paid) server and transferring it not easy and likely means getting your local distributor involved.

it is the cloud solution (not hosted locally) so i'm guessing it is the paid version. i will find out about this. thank you for the answer.

Hi Emre,

Yes if is BIMCloud SaaS, hosted on the cloud, it will be the paid version.

Cheers,

Scott

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but I'm not sure how this answer resolves the issue? Are you saying a Basic server works with this kind of set-up where the Paid one does not? I am experiencing the same issue. I have manually assigned the paid license to myself on our own bimcloud server, but when I log onto the collaborator's server using my own login credentials the license does not come with me.

I'd like to understand how Emre got to a solution based on the above advice please. Is the only solution to contact the local distributor?

this has been one of my biggest hang ups with BIMcloud, that each service needs to maintain enough licenses for every consultant. My license can not be used for multiple servers. I understand I am unique in that I am connecting to multiple servers; but if you want engineers to adopt archicad, they are likely NOT hosting the model anyway... so there is no compatibility with IDP, unless an architect wants to provide extra seats on their dime.

Basic servers do not need paid licenses you can have as many users as you want, but lack since more advanced functionality that would likely need if you had external  collaborators.

From my understanding (I only have BIMClkoud Basic) a paid license can only be assigned to a single BiMCloud (Pro) server at a time.  I suspect Emre asked the collaborator to purchase an extra paid BIMCloud license for them (or Emre added their BIMCloud license to the collaborators server but in not sure if that’s even possible)

i believe there may some development coming where you can BYO licence to a collaborators BIMCloud (Pro) server, but not sure how far away that is.

Yes thanks, my collaborator found the instructions and we've both attempted to connect using the new methodology. Method explanation and instructions below:

https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Licensing/Assigning-Licenses-on-BIMcloud-as-a-Service/ta-p/30543...

https://help.graphisoft.com/BCSAAS/INT/_BIMcloud_SaaS_/10_BIMcloud_SaaS/10_BIMcloud_SaaS-17.htm

I would explain what we did in proper detail but it still hasn't worked. Essentially, we both assigned our licenses specifically to our own Graphisoft ID's (the GSID option, available once you have manually assigned it to yourself), and then invited each other to our own servers by adding a new user using the 'invite GSID user' option. Once accepted we assigned each other as a 'bring your own license' user from our own servers under the license options for each profile. Then proceeded to try opening the teamworks file on the collaborators server only to get the 'no available licenses could be reserved' error message.

Fail.
