Bg shines through...!?

I don't know why the background shines through my golden "buildings"? Any clue?

My bet is (assuming you don't have transparecy in your shader) that LW put background image also behind the camera so you wouldn't have unreflected areas in your model.
Try to change the view angle a little bit, or change projection setting of your background.

I would say "non-correct reflection". LW's reflection of background image isn't real reflection. It looks like picture trough transparent object.

So it's a reflection and a seriosly dumb one! Do I have to model a huuuuge neutrally colored background? This way it just looks silly...
I didn't save the model since I was only plaing with Maxon...will try it again...

the easy way is to have internal engine render the background.

Agree.
What really works for me is a combination of some neutral sky background and the big poster behind the camera with desired pic on it. This way you have nice sky reflection in upper windows/glass/whatever and some "real life" reflections at the bottom part.
It may be a nice tip for those who currently work on parcel in a tight street.

I get the same results with Internal and LW rendering the Background
