A 3D view is created and dragged into the selected Layout,
however The Layout image shows the "grayed" bounding box
background of the view. See attachment below.
Is there a way to display the View without the gray bounding
for consistency with other images in the Layout?

That would just be your background colour below the horizon? Have you tried setting the View to use a 3D Style that is white below the horizon?

In the layout view select the drawing element then go to your info box and check "transparent background" image below for your reference, hope it helps.

Thanks for all the replies,
I try to answers them before and my message was blocked.
Anyway, the solution is to use the View Settings for 3D and select the settings for "Simple Shading w/ Shadows" and "Outdoors Daylight Basic"
When dragging the view to the Layout, the shaded bounding box is not visible.
