Do many American architects do houses that don't look ape 19th century styles? I tried finding modern ones and was very disappointed - certainly the CAD community (which is where I was looking) seem pre-occupied with the glorious past.

There is no modern american style but international style in the USA.
Colonial style, Madonna Style, Tom Cruise style in Beverley hills, Winchester style (Horror Style), Hollywood style (50th, 60th, etc.),
Diseney Style, and one more time Disney style.
Cowboy western style, mexican style in the USA, Insurance company style,
european romantic style, Uncle tom's cavine style,....

Not many clients want modern homes and builders are very conservative about trying new styles. There is maybe a little more acceptance on modern today than 15 years ago but still a small part of the market.

Why would your client come to you to have plans made for an american house?

If you are building it in Iraq, do it like this. http://www.logixicf.com/

Here is an american house. Perhaps he would like to live in this one?

I bet this would look real good in Iraq. I can get you the plans real cheap too.

Utah of the middle east.

This looks like State street to me.

One already-completed house next to the Dream City is a dead-ringer for a house in the American suburbs. It came complete with a garage and even an oversized yard.
