Save your mesh as a Morph?
Then you can smooth the surface and increase the number of polygons.

So, once the mesh is converted to a morph with soft edges, it cannot be brought back to the previous edgy form? Now my mesh is smooth but there are lower parts that need to be corrected.
I did it with Ctrl Z after I tried with the Edge(s) option and nothing happened. The smooth terrain looks great but without the nodes it's very difficult to edit it.
