BIMx PRO

what's up with Lachmi Khemlani getting the scoop on something called BIMx PRO.

What is it and what is the upgrade path from BIMx Docs?

It seems a reasonable cost for large projects.

What about small domestic housing projects, (extensions / small alterations) of which I do many.
It would be good if there was a low cost option for these type jobs?

Your BIMx Docs app should upgrade to BIMx Pro.
If it hasn't happened automatically go into you app updates and do it manually.

Are you trying to open a BIMx file created in the version 19 Beta?
If so the current mobile app won't open those.

I like that also because the most clients(homeowners); at least in my experience, want to see the floor plan & elevation. 2 sheets. Maybe a Pro BIMx Commercial & Pro BIMx Residential, maybe?

The BIMx Hyper Model is identified by the Name of the Publisher Set from which the model is created (this is the same Name the user sees in the Project List in the BIMx app). So the Hyper Model is not identified by the name of the resulting BIMx file. Therefore the name of the saved BIMX file can be freely modified to carry version/design option etc. information, and one does not have to pay the 50 USD each time the name of the BIMx file is different.
This is even true if you saved your Project file under a new name (e.g. in the SD, DD, CD phases) with the name of the Publisher Set staying the same.
Still not clear on this...so in the instance shown here, is the BIMx Hyper Model identified as "BIMx Docs" or "Save to BIMx' (the 3D view used for the save) or possible "The Plastiras Residence"?

I don't want to be making a bunch of mistakes at $50 USD a pop.

Thanks for the help.

I don't have BIMx PRO on my machine, but my understanding is that it is the name of the Publisher Set that identifies the BIMx Hyper-Model. Then each saved 3D Viewpoint item in the Publisher Set will be a 3D Model within BIMx that you can view.

So in your example, the generated BIMx file (identified by the "BIMx Docs" name) would have two 3D Models: "General Perspective" and "Save to Bimx".

(But as I said I cannot verify it since I don't have BIMx PRO - or a smart phone or tablet for that matter).

Can I just take the opportunity to point out (once again) that this is why we need a desktop version of BIMx Pro (as in, the HyperDocs version - not just the plain vanilla 3D version).

To be able to verify our sets in-house and in the office before publishing them and wasting $50 or more only to discover some minor error that could have been corrected.

Or even just for in-office meetings and reviews from the workstations.

It doesn't even have to be a separate license from the license of the ArchiCAD machine generating it (it could be an adjunct program much like the current viewer that installs and runs with ArchiCAD and if need be, generates desktop BIMx Pro files that are either hardware or machine locked (meaning they can only be read on the machine that generated them.

If people are already willing to spend the money to use BIMx Pro for tablet and smartphone to facilitate their projects and benefit their clients and consultants (while simultaneously generating free publicity for GS), wouldn't this be a beneficial bonus to allow us the users to ensure the quality of our product and to better serve our projects - and ultimately in GS own best interest.

As an added bonus with a desktop version with a more or less consolidated interface with the Android/iOS versions, it would eliminate the need to develop a separate BIMx PRo for Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 which essentially runs all Windows desktop programs and which seems tobe picking up steam as a serious work tablet for professionals that's not currently served well by (nor is serving) the AEC community.
