Ben, thanks for the tip! I'll be buying too.
A question:
To complicate the on-going renderer discussion a little, is Luxology's modo application any good as a renderer in combination with Archicad? Will it accept Archicad 3D exports? In what format? And Archicad materials? Have you tested it?

Modo's possible advantages

Modo costs less than C4D's upgrade from 9.6 to 10.
They let you move your license between OS platforms.
They give you a 30 day trial that can be extended if you need/want more time to play around with the software (I am on my 3rd extension)
The new render engine looks good and it is fast
You can export from AC as obj or 3ds and Modo will read them without problems

Modo 201
- New $895
- Upgrade $395
- No animation

--> Best for modeling freeform geometry. I would not use it as a rendering engine for ArchiCAD. Use it for modeling objects, characters, props etc... and paint them for final renderings.

The luxology web site contained an excellent "Watch a Tutorial Video (1 of 4)". Does the tutorial come with the software?

i don't know too much about modo, suffice to say that it looks fantastic but doesn't really fit into the archicad/construction workflow easily. stefan summed up it's ideal uses well.

that being said, a couple of years ago i downloaded modo 1.0 to have a play - i was extremely impressed by the interface, the tutorials and the Quality of the product as a whole. it's worth downloading just to see it in action! graphisoft could learn an awful lot from the modo crew . . .
