Trace reference in 3D

Hi, is there some way how to have Trace reference in 3D model ?

- I have IFC like reference and i have to re-modelate to AC model.

- When I put wall where suppose to be. MY wall blocking to see me position of windows/doors

- For now i fixed it like that all my walls are glass and I can see trough. But I cannot snap in to the reference window.

→ Looking for something where can I change opacity for both like Trace and Reference for 2D but in 3D

Thanks

In the layer manager you can set the display mode of a layer to wireframe which will allow to click/snap elements which are hidden by elements on that layer. If you do this for your wall layer I think that you would be able to place windows/doors/openings in 3D with the IFC as a reference.

This didn't work as well as I expected.

It seems as placement snaps for wireframed elements has some limitations. So the window can only be placed at the start and end of wall reference line. This makes it quite tedious as you have to move the window in place.

Another option is to use guide line segments. Make a diagonal segment across the IFC opening > hide the IFC model > snap to the guideline when placing on the new wall.

Did you mean this ? Because it's quite hard to see something there

The display mode of the IFC layer should be solid and the layer of the AC wall should be wireframe. However, as said below, it might just be quicker to mark the openings with guide segments.

Maybe try applying Graphic Override rule to the IFC model. Instead of a glass or wireframe setting, try paint everything to a semi-transparent material if possible. Maybe that helps...

I am wondering whether the Model Compare feature is of any help to you in this situation:

Note that you would probably import the IFC into another Project File and compare the contents of that Model's 3D with the 3D of the Project you are working in. As far as I know, direct comparison to IFC files is not possible.

Yes Exactly what I'm looking for "Model Compare feature" but is it existing in AC 23 ?
I can't find it ...

- My issue with IFC that I got it from 3D AutoCad and is already exported can I re-export ?

No, this feature was introduced in AC24.

You can export as IFC as many times as you want, even with different settings.
