AC 10 Preview on Layout

Brad Elliott
Booster
In plotmaker in the Drawing Settings of the drawing you could select your preview on layout to be vectorial, bitmap, or frame only. In 10 when I move my drawing I seem to be locked into a Frame only view of my drawing in my layout. This makes it difficult to place the drawing since I can't see the contents. Can someone tell me where I can find the setting to make the view live (the old vectorial or bitmap setting) so I can see my drawings while I move them.

i didnt realise we'd lost this as well as the Bitmap/Frame preview .... which i think is up to 4 topics now including this one? I having been using Fit Frame now that AC seems to acknowledge the Zoom saved with the view settings (never worked for me in v9).

Seriously I hope this is going to get fixed in a patch. We should not have to wait until v11 to get back two useful layouting features that we had in v9.

It is a real pain in the arse when working on big drawings

Hey Owen,

It's actually always been dependent on the views' Zooming. If you saved with Current Zoom, the drawing would not be Fit to Frame. If you saved with zooming set to None, it would be Fit to Frame.

This is still the case with AC10 and made more obvious by the drawing's frame when placed on a layout. Fit to Frame drawings will have a frame with a solid line and Manually resized frame drawings will have a frame with a dashed line. That's if you have drawing frames visible in On-screen View Options. Fit to Frame is the only way to go IMHO.

The visual clues are welcome that's for sure.

Me too. Should find out soon enough.

Yeah sorry i could have been clearer. I know a drawing should not be Fit to Frame if it has a zoomed area saved (and Fit to Frame if not) - I just never seemed to get this to work in PM9.

Setting myself up here again i think but even with the Adjust Drawing Frame of imported vectorial drawing to reflect ArchiCAD view's zoomed area checked (see attached) it would only ever place a drawing showing the entire contents, not the views zoomed area. Is there another place I should have been looking for this?

I havent checked in 10 but if your placed drawing is based on the views zoom and you change the zoom, does the frame change on the layout? I guess not but it would be a good option .. sort of Fit Frame to Zoom. Generally we use Fit Frame to Drawing but for plans you often need to use the views zoom so this feature would be very helpful, particularly for zone plans.

Thought that would have me bleeped. Anyway I think i made my feelings known in a few of the other posts on this subject. I have relaxed a little now

Yes that's still there in AC10, under Project Preferences > Layouts. This is a global setting, which is on by default. If you turn it off, none of what I said earlier is relevant.

No it doesn't, which is why it is typically a dangerous state. If the view is saved with a Zoom, it's frame will be set to Manually resized frame, and that means just that. So if the zoom is changed, the drawing's frame won't be updated to reflect it because it's 'static'.

It has more importance than some people realize because they may ignore the zooming and save a view with it set to current. Then later they extend the building out by 10 feet and the drawing doesn't adjust it's frame to allow for the last two feet and the dimensions. Then off it goes to the builder in a set of plans...

And zooming is fucking on by default!

Do I remember right that the first version of 9 did the ghosted drawing move thing, then they fixed it with a later release. History repeats itself with 10.
