Grid display in Layout

How do I get the grid in a Drawing to display in the Layout?

When I go to the drawing it looks fine. In Layout it does not show up in that drawing. When I turn on the grid display in Layout it does not seem to have any effect on the drawing.

Which grid are you talking about? The grid object?
Tom Waltz
the construction grid.

It shows up as usual in my drawing but not in the Layout.

I have tried different Master Layout setting too. I can’t seem to make it display.

Perhaps, like Ghost Stories, this is not an option in 10.

It looks like you can get a grid in the Layout, but not in the drawings themselves.

Thats what I was afraid of. I will have to figure out a little work around.

Also, how do you change the scale of grid in a Master Layout?
When I am in a Master Layout I can not change the "Current scale"

Why is my "Current scale" in a Master Layout always 1"=1'-0" and can not be changed ?

The grid display along with the scale are separate for the layouting environment than the modeling environment.

The grid will display in 'real world' units in the layouting environment relative to the layout/sheet size.

The scale is 1:1 because you wouldn't want to scale a sheet would you? Sure the scale of the drawing that is placed on the sheet may change but not the sheet itself. That'd be like physically shrinking a piece of paper with your hands!

This isn't to be confused with zooming in the layouting environment, which is akin to moving a sheet of paper towards and away from your face!

Just try and think of it as coming out of the modeling world and into the real world I guess. What is it you're trying to achieve.

What I want to achieve is "control" of the grids in Layout and/or Master Layouts. Is this possible or not? If you can not display grids in Layout drawings I need to know so I don't waste a lot of time trying to make it work.

Also, when I am working in a Master Layout I may want to draw something at the same scale as the Layouts associated with it.

For example. I have several Layouts displaying Drawings at 1/4"=1'-0"

I want to draw some additional things in the Master Layout being used with all of these layouts. This seems like a very basic task. Now go to the Master Plan and try and draw to the same scale. I can't do it. Can you?

Or suppose you want to turn on the grid for some reason. This also does not seem like an unusual thing to be able to do. I can not do this either. It will apparently do no good to turn on the grid in the drawing because it will not show up in the Layout. You can turn on a grid in the Master Layout but what scale is it? How do you control it since it does not match the scale of the dialog box for Grids and Background.

There must be setting somewhere that I am not finding.

No grids and no ghost stories? That's not ok with me. I was hoping for more control in these areas not less. I was hoping that we could display multiple ghost stories in different colors with out having to do the work around thing of adding additional drawings which increases redraw time.

I am not giving up just yet. I think there must be some way to use grids in Layouts.

You can control them insofar as you can set their size, rotation, etc. But it will be the same setting for all layouts and masters, because it's the ame for the entire 'layouting environment'. This grid is different than your 'modeling envirnoment' grid. It's 1:1 - real life measurements compared to the page!

I wouldn't want to (add anything that was to scale). In fact I would urge anyone not to. The layout book is not the ideal place to do any form of notation apart from title/titleblock information, and maybe the odd amendment note, IMHO.

There isn't. But I suspect that you may be looking for the wrong thing entirely. If you're keen to explain what it is you're trying to achieve and why, then we'd be in a better position to help you achieve it.

What I want to do is have the construction grid in my Drawings show up in the Layout. Can this be done? Yes or No?

If not, then I want to find some other way to show a construction grid.

In a Layout I can display a construction grid, but how can I make it relative to the drawing I wanted to see it in?

As for Drawing in the Master Layout. I was only talking about drawing lines for borders and title blocks. Suppose I want to move it 6" or some specific distance to work better with the drawings in the layout. You can't do that because the Master Layout is 1:1.

I am going out to do some survey work and the grid would be useful on the print. Thats all I am trying to do.

How to get the end result in never my question.

Obviously, I can print directly from the Drawing to get what I want.
I just didn't want to loose out on the functionality of the Layout Book.

This is the same old story (for me only that is ) as with PlotMaker.

Too often I would find that to get the print the way I want it, I was better off to printing directly from ArchiCAD rather than taking the time to configure PlotMaker to work with a work-around and increasing my redraw time.

I want ALL of the functionality of ArchiCAD in the Layout Book environment. Including Ghost Stories and construction grids.

Hi Steve,
You can put your grid in certain layer.
You can make visible or unvisible in layout.
