HELP! TEXT TROUBLE!

Please explain to this self-taught newbie how is it possible to have text (actual words) in dimension lines instead of the actual dimension numbers?

It is possible to select the text only in a dimension string - and edit it. You must first place a dimension string, then edit it. The hot spot is around the lower left of the text in the string - I can't remember for sure, but I think if you turn on "text handles" in the display options, the handle might show up and be easier to find. If you select the text and then (keyboard short cut) -> command + T, (mac) - you are able to edit the text.
Hope that was clear enough,

Tom is right, the display Option for text with handles makes it easier to find the handle which is to the lower left of the text itself. You can also make the changes right in the info box. Once the text is selected, you'll see in the info box the words measured value and under it will be the dimension. Just change the pull down from measured to custom and then type your new text in the box.

What would be nice is being able to add text (as a suffix or prefix) to a dimension, so that if the dimension itself changed the measured value text would update, but the added text remains. I know in ****CAD you can change the dimension string to "<> blah blah blah" where the <> means "measured value". Is this on a wish list yet?

Yes, that would be nice, so you could add stuff like Max., clear etc. to the measured value and not have to redo the manual text every time if the actual length varies. Don't know if its on a wish list or not, yet.

You should make a wish out of this.
I would vote ESSENTIAL on it.
