Is this a section view, 3D documet, or...?

I was wondering how to create something like this:

This doesn't look like a section, but it doesn't seem possible in the 3D window either, I believe it can only be done by manipulating the Uncut and Cut surface display settings. Can someone tell me how to achieve this?

You're on the right track.. haven't done it in a little while, but I think it's as simple as you just set up your 3d view the way want including using the cutting planes.

Then create a 3d document. On which you can add notes and dimensions etc.

Don't forget you can use a marquee to isolate parts of your model to view in 3D.
Then refine with cutting planes.

Basically get it to look how you want it in 3D and then create a 3D document as Erik mentioned.

Also in 17 we have moving cutting planes that we can drag instead of using the marquee.

Um, how do you get the cut fills and the object surfaces to show up together in a 3D document? Like the one in the picture.

Try these settings in the 3D Document settings.
