AC17 painfully slow in detail layout sheet

I am experiencing super slow editing / operations in my detail sheet layout.
36" x 48" sheet layout with 42 detail cells. I have only added 5 details so far and things are getting unbearably slow already.

I am creating the details in the project map / details area at 3" = 1'-0"
am not using the detail tool - am just using the window space there to
draw details (2d lines & fills mostly) using information from past jobs that I have copied into the window (whole 2d detail sheets brought in)

When I finish a detail have been using the "save view and place on a layout" option.

As mentioned so far have placed about 5 details, 2 of which I needed to reduce the scale from 3" to 1 1/2" and so those were asigned a new penset to compensate for the change in scale and another has a placed view of a figure tool image of a 3d detail I created in my plan view.

Didn't place the figure tool image directly onto the layout because if you do that you can't manipulate the image boundary like you can a placed view.

I tried undoing that operation, but it had little to no effect on the sluggish environment there.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?
Do you think it could be the 2 details that have a different penset?
Is there some other method for placing details on a layout that wouldn't cause AC17 to be so slow?

I still need to add about 70 or 80 more so if anyone has any suggestions
I could sure use the help.

Have not experienced slowness on Details.
Just guessing, are you placing Model Views in the Layouts or Saved Views?
If the former the slowness might be because AC has to process the layers as "Custom". This is just a guess.

Only "save view and place on layout" there are quite a few views on my plan layouts that update themselves if that is what you mean by model view. I'm thinking that this problem might be because I am using Vista ultimate 64 bit. Graphisoft says 17 will work with this OS, but
they recommend windows 7 or better. Already discovered that I can't make a bimx file of my project. Maybe this problem is just another indication that 17 needs the newer OS.

Jonathan,

generally Vista itself should be fine, we are not aware of any operating related slowness.

One idea that comes in my mind is whether you have trace reference turned on while working on the layout. Please check this, turn it off if it was on and let us know the results.

Marton,

That's good news about Vista Ultimate 64, especially since my computer manuf. told me I can't upgrade the OS to win 7.

Just checked and trace ref is off and detail sheet layout environment is still extremely sluggish. It's a depressing place in which I will have to spend a huge amount of time in the very near future.
Currently avoiding it like the plague!....Help!!

I could send you a pla if you have a large file service.

Hi,

I checked Jonathan's case in our US support system. It looks like a few objects needed to be removed as they were giving errors in the 3D window.

To see if there are such objects:
- open Work Environment
- Imaging and Calculation
- Make sure you have selected Interrupt with error messages
- Open the 3D window and check the report it gives

Try to locate the objects based on the report, remove them temporarily to see how the performance changes.
