Bad cleanup

interesting that I can't get these walls to clean up properly.

does not seem to matter if reverence lines are one side or the other.

Try using a single thin walls, crossing the bold one, instead of two.
If you need two separate walls, put the joint slightly OUT of the bold wall.

Yes, that works fine for a plan view fix. It messes up the 3d view and schedule. Actually I don't need the accuracy of the model and schedules anyway. I just think it should clean up with out having to trick the program.
