I really need that *.2dl

I have a *.pln project in 8.1 version and I need to export floor by floor in *.2dl type. But in AC8.1 there is no *.2dl option in "Save as..." dialog as in earlier versions. I can export only 3d window but that's not what I want. How to convert *.pln floor plan i *.2dl ???

Ps. It's really urgent and important to me. Thanx!

You can actually put the rendering in 3d top view and export from the 3d window. If you need to cut the walls then you can either use SEO or cutting planes. If you need only one floor then use the markee tool on the floor you want, go to the 3d window and export from there.
Hopes this helps

If you just need it as 2D lines (not necessarily .2dl) copy with the flat marquee from the 3D window, paste into the plan window, and save as needed; best to define the views, and arrange the stuff in PlotMaker.

What is it exactly that you want to do?

I saved the file in dwg format (2d) and then re-import in AC. This really slow down my computer but works. 3D view or cutting planes are not usable to me. I need to modify (prepare for plotting) what I see in floor plan.

Try also the patch tool or save your file with a new name and explode everything on plan. But I didn't understand why you want to do this

I know this topic is very old, but i just couldn't help replying due to absolute frustration i feel.

Milstan enquired about saving from the 3d window into a .2DL format.

No one else seems to know what the hell he's talking about but then goes ahead and gives suggestions which are of no use, or/and are no way related, nor do they answer his enquiry. Almost laughable if i'm not feeling so pissed off right now because of the fact that i've got the same problem as Milstan.

Firstly, welcome to the forum.
Some suggestions:
A.Try to select with the 2d marquee from the 3d window/ then copy/paste on floor plan (if you want the contents of the 3d window)
B. Try to explode everything on plan / it becomes 2d (if you want the contents of the floor plan)
C. Try to publish as a 2d format (DWG/PDF etc) (if you want the contents of the floor plan)
D. Try to explain us what is exactly what you are trying to achieve.
E. Try to explain us why do you specifically need the .2dl format
F. Try to be more polite, this is a forum and not a help line where you paid your subscription fee.

My apologies.

Ok, re: *.2dl format. Lets start from the beginning. If you were to start archicad>open a project>browse for a project. When you browse for a project you get the filing system pop up.

In this pop up, the drop down menu of different "File Types" that you can open are: .pln, .jpeg, .dwg, etc...etc... One of the file types that you can also open however, is called *.2dl

Now being something that you can open, HOW DO YOU CREATE ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE?

As Milstan and i have said, this was done by saving a .2dl file when you're within the 3D window. But with versions 8 and 9, the option to save as: *.2dl is not available anymore.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But we'd like to find out if anyone knows what the go is with this issue.

Regarding exactly what kind of file it is and why. This file is particularly useful when you have to do a quick shadow diagram. You'd go into 3d parrallel projection and view from bird's eye view. Do a render and save as *.2dl This gives you everything that you see in 3d but in a 2d format. You then open the .2dl file and drag the shadows which were cast, onto your site plan.

It is much easier.
Go to the 3d window.
Use the internal engine.
Shadows on.
Use the marquee tool.
Use the 2d marquee option.
Edit/copy (or crtl + C)
A dialogue appears where you can ask to copy only the shadows.
Paste the shadows (which are now fills) onto your floor plan.
