Is there a way to turn off the XYZ symbol in the 3D window?

I checked under View menu > Onscreen View Options, Grid Display, Editing Plane Display, and 3D Window Options, and also the Options menu > Work Environment > Onscreen Options, and couldn't see a way to turn off the XYZ indicator in the 3D window.
As I recall, in the GDL editing environment, there is a little icon button in the lower-left navigation area that turns this off and on, but I don't see this in the 3D Window navigation area.
Does anyone know if it is possible to turn this off?
Eric

It dissappears in 3d Explore mode, if that's of any help.
I confess it's never bothered me that much, but it certainly could be a little less obtrusive and a visibility toggle would be nice to have.
