Merge views?

Hi,
is there any way in ArchiCAD 9 or 10 to merge or import entire views from one file into another? I know I can copy and paste or maybe use modules but I'd like to keep the View/Publisher data intact. My specific case is details drafted in one (AC 9) file that I'd like to merge into another, but I can imagine others.

Not as far as I know. The best I can think of is to merge into the file that has the views set up - probably not that useful. This will probably be something for the next go round.

Agreed. There seems to be a host of interrelated external content and file linking issues in need of improvement—Teamwork, Modules, View/Drawing references across multiple files, probably others. That would also be the time to create the universal file type.

But I wonder if it would not be wise to "finish" some of the brave new features introduced in ArchiCAD 10 first. You know, things like true curved profiles and roofs, calculation of sub-components of complex profiles, correct floor plan display of all cut elements (including SEOs and roof trims), better integration of the Floor Plan Cut Plane with Stories...I think once AC 10 gets some thorough use we'll be hearing a lot more about these and a few more.

It is natural with all the improvements 10 that they will need some polishing and adjusting in the next version. I agree that they will be intricately related to other needed improvements, and of course I appreciate your ongoing support for the unified file type.

There will always be the tricky balance to be struck between fixing/improving existing features and adding new ones. The various requirements of progress, usability and marketing all compel this. I'm sure we'll be discussing this at much greater length in the near future.

Yes - don't forget to include that we still can't link details to details in external files!

I can't see any way to merge views either. By design I'm sure, mate.

I doubt that this is by design. I think it is more that it is a very complex issue to sort out in practice.

To work properly it must accurately merge not only the view name and type but also the layer and view combos. Since Attribute Manager cannot yet reliably merge layer combos and view settings (as far as I recall) are not transferable, this seems like a "non-trivial" task. Add to that the question of where to place the source view for details merged from section windows that are not present in the receiving file, whether and how to import the 2D work within the view (very desirable IMHO), and the relationship to the project origin and you have, I think, a pretty difficult specification to develop let alone implement.

As Geoff points out this would also be intricately related to further developments in the program and perhaps this function will develop as a matter of course with all the rest.

Of course - I was kidding. GS is obviously biting this off in chewable chunks. I'm sure imporvements to Teamwork will see improvements to this type of file integration.
