If you don't want to use the Curtain Wall tool, then try profiled walls:
Create a complex profile where you can include the glass and the top and bottom Transoms.
That wall now can take any doors / windows.
To add mullions and additional transoms you will have to use profiled Beams and Columns.
The down side is that in a complex project is a lot of elements to administrate... one by one.
I'd rather go with Curtain Walls, but the choice is yours.
