beam to have fill attached

is there a way to attach a fill to a beam so that when i draw the beam it comes up grey? at the moment when i draw the beam it just comes up as white as a default on plan, but i would like to see it as a colour?

any ideas?

GS are very aware that many people want fills to beams.
I brought it up with them again just recently in the developers forum - but no sign as to when/if it will happen.

This is something that is utterly baffling to me. There must be something fundamentally different about the beam tool that makes it impossible to add a cover fill to. Slab, roof, mesh, shell etc have had this for a long time...I don't get it.

What are the pros and cons of using object beams like
Joist Beam 21, Wood I-Joist 21, W Beams 21... instead of the Beam Tool?

The problem with objects is they don't interact (trim) with each other or other elements.
So no mitred corners or trimmed columns or holes punched in walls automatically.

I forgot about that. I guess I don't miter beams very often.

Working in v17 I prefer to use the object Purlin 17 instead of beams as I can have a fill with it and I can change the end angle if need be. I don't like how beams merge into each other.

Each into their own. While the object has a lot more control, making modifications across your project becomes extremely time consuming.
