dimensioning concerns

I am finding that AC won't easily (at all?) let me dimension to the center of a window...is there a keystroke I am missing? Also, it appears to be true that the endpoints of a dimension string aren't repositionable. Could that possibly be true?

There should be a hotspot in the center of the window that you can snap to. It's usually on the reference side of the wall.

The dimensions themselves cannot be edited. They have to be associated with some other element, which is edited and the dimensions follow. Not great, but true.
