Drawing a line to a specific dimension

Paul G
Newcomer

I am using ArchiCAD 22 and when I try to draw a line to a specific dimension, it beeps and does not allow the dimension to be entered. eg. line tool, followed by r 10 to draw a 10mm line. it just beeps when I try to enter 10.

Are you zoomed in enough?

I can imagine that if you are not zoomed in enough then the starting point and end point of the line are very close to each other, so you click to start the line, enter the 10mm, and the distance is so small at that zoom level that the cursor is still sensing the starting point so the line would be a zero-length line.

Another thing I can think of is that your Snap Grid is turned on, and again, Archicad would draw the starting point and end point at the exact same location.

Hi Laszlo, thanks for your response. The grid snap is turned off and when I try drawing a much longer line, say 10m. when I press r 10000. it just beeps every time I press a number. I have never had this problem before. I am using a Mac M1 platform, perhaps the macOS settings are messing with ArchiCAD?

I know very little about Macs, but just wondering if you have a separate numeric key section on your keyboard and the 'NUM LOCK' button is off?

If that is not it, when you press R (radius) or D (distance)  - the same thing really - does the tracker appear on screen?

Hi Barry, thanks for your reply. my keyboard doesn't have a number lock button, but Apple says holding Shift key with the Delete key does the same thing. This doesn't seem to do anything. When I try to draw a line the tracker doesn't appear as it used to, it has disappeared.

Hi Barry, I found the tracker, turned it on and now the line command with dimensions works properly. Thanks very much for your help!
