Module - Schmodule

I'm not new to AC but I am new to modules.

The problem is, I've saved a batch of project notes under different module names (ie. Demolition, FF&E, Electrical). And, I've been blasting away the unused layers so that the modules will come into the layer I've assigned them.

Yet, they all seem to append the occupied layer from the last opened module as a new layer? For example, I open "Demolition.mod" and reduce the layers to "Demo" and the ubiquitous "Archicad".

And when I open "Electrical.mod" the layer "Demo" shows up? So I delete it, open up "demolition.mod" and lo, and behold, I now have a new layer called "electrical". And "Electrical.mod" has a new layer called "demo".

I've tried "save" and "save as" without success....

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

If this is the way you want to go, Try creating a mod file with many stories and organize your notes on different stories rather than single files. Use layer names that exist in your pln file already or create if necessary.

From your post I can't tell if there is a consistency in your typing of the layer names amongst all the mods and pln files. Some things seem capitalized, others not.

Thats a good tip about the storeys.

But my question is why are layers being automatically added to my module files?

If I open 'Demolition.mod' which contains the layer 'Notes-Demolition' that layer gets added to the next module I open - so for example, my 'Keynotes.mod' file suddenly gains a layer called 'Notes-Demolition'.

It is incredibly frustrating.

Is this a bug?

If I am getting it right the problem could be that:

- MODs will only save the layers for the stuff they contain, *but*

- if you are successively opening MODs from the same ArchiCAD session you are piling new layers into your default document, and since you are opening a MOD and not a PLN the default setup takes over --if this is the case, the layers belong to the session and will not get saved into the MODs unless you put stuff into those layers and resave the modules.

I may be getting it totally wrong though, I have got used to using PLNs for modules and have not used MODs for quite a while. Will you still get the parasite layer/s if you quit and then open that MOD from a new ArchiCAD session?

I think what you've described seems to be the cause. I guess it's one of those 'features' that maybe isn't a feature!

I've imported them all to a .PLN as you suggested and resaved as a module so it's all sorted - Thanks!!

Save the file containing all the notes, each set on its own storey, with the layers and everything else cleared with Attribute manager, as PLN.

Then attach the appropriate storeys using the Module toolset.

Should not create any troubles.
