Room-by-room wall surface area schedules

I am stumped - it seems that no matter which way I have thought of or looked up online, it runs into either massive errors or plain-impossible to organize. I have tried using Zone schedules tracking the Walls Surface Area for the Zone but it is full of bizarre calculation errors.

I am about to resort to manual calculations (measuring XxY for each wall of each room) but surely this can be done in Archicad 29.

What do you guys do to cost wallpaper / wall paint / wall PVC sheets etc when refurbishing a building?

Thanks for your detective work, Barry.

I get the incorrect results in 28 and in 29. In 27 it works fine (but do read * further down).

One other thing I am noticing is that Columns are included when reporting on 'Number of Wall Parts'.

* Although 27 seems to work fine, it's still got its own glitch (glitches?):

I've got this weird 'niche' in a historic room layout. I've put niche in inverted commas because it isn't really a niche, but it's actually built with real wall construction. Archicad is ignoring the 2x 440mm of wall lengths below:

This results in 'Walls Perimeter' and 'Zone Gross Perimeter' ("ZGP") differing. I created two Properties, calculating the Wall Surface Area ("WSA") from multiplying ZGP by the Zone's Height, also another one doing the same thing but also subtracting the Doors Surface Area and the Windows Surface Area (so I get the accurate walls surface area after openings):

It's a pain, but I have got there. The main problem is that with all of this saga, I am left not trusting what Archicad lists in the schedules - I have to go into as many situations as possible, doing manual calculations to confirm, then doing workarounds. And that's before we speak about the pain of saving the v29 project as Archicad 27 so I can load it there and run the schedule.

Very clumsy at the moment...

Hi Everybody!

We tested the issue and found the following:

The Element-based schedule does not calculate the "Walls Surface Area" correctly for zones. As you noted, wall ends are not added properly to the total surface area. This is related to an earlier issue with wall junction calculations (DEF-6844). The Wall Surface Area calculation logic has been modified across versions, and it appears this introduced a regression. We will work with the development team to address this, although we cannot confirm a timeline for it.

Zone Perimeter and Walls Perimeter are calculated using different methods, which can lead to discrepancies. Zone Perimeter calculation is based solely on zone geometry, while the Wall Perimeter is more complicated and can be affected by wall junction behaviour.
If you want to have wall areas based on zones, then the Zone perimeter * Zone height - Openings calculation could be a workaround, as was already mentioned earlier.

In a Surface schedule, the "Exposed area" calculation works correctly. However, this field is not directly available in a Zone Schedule. I using this schedule as a workaround was previously suggested, and while it’s not ideal since it requires multiple wall elements with properly assigned surfaces, it does provide accurate results when the model is structured correctly.

We apologise for the inaccuracies in the current calculations and for the inconvenience this causes. We will continue working toward a fix in a future update.
