drawing update and transmittals

I'm new to changes & revisions, would like to start using them, but need two things cleared out:

- when updating layouts, only layouts in current set will be updated, right?

- because closed transmittal sets don't update I can archive and browse trough earlier project phases (schematic design, documentation for approval) in my layout book, right?

Thanks!

Cmon guys, somebody must know if layouts in closed transmittal get updated or not?

If you apply changes and update the layouts, only the layouts with the changes applied will update and be added to the next transmittal set when you create it, drawings not affected by the changes will not update. However, if you apply the changes to elements in the model any view those elements appear in which is subsequently placed on the layout will update. Sometimes there are layouts you want to fix at a certain stage or the particular change is not relevant to that layout. You can manually remove the change if you don’t want it to be included on a per layout basis.

if you truly want to lock drawings down after specific project work stages, use Drawing Manager to break the links to the views on the layouts. That way they will never update unless you relink them again.

I am sure you have probably read this already but the help article on changes and revision manager is very helpful.

If a placed View is set to Automatic Update, it will update when ever you view it whether or not the Layout it is on is in an closed Transmittal or not. You can test this yourself, just add one of the default Layouts to a Transmital, close the Transmital, edit the View then go back to the Layout...

If a placed View is set to Manual Update you will get a warning about it when you go to close a Transmital telling you that Views are not up to date. This does not prevent someone from updating the View on a layout that is on a Close Layout. You should probably take a copy of the pln for each phase and major stage anyway...
