hammer tool

Sometimes I'm able to select multiple items, click on the hammer tool and be able to change its layer and pen set properties, sometimes I'm not able to change it. What could be the problem?

If you have different types of element The properties won't change with the Standard "Command + t" ( the shortcut for "the Hammer tool" you are referring to)

You need to press "command + option + t" on mac or "CTRL + Alt + t" on windows to change the parameters on *different types of elements.* (polyline, fill, arc ETC... all together in the selection are considered different elements)
