Unusual Issue

Does anyone know what is happening here?

It happens when I render at medium or final on any scene. The window shown here is an Archicad 18.0 standard but it also happened with Cadimage Windows. The window is new but located in an existing wall (renovation status). In the original wall is a smaller window.

I have reviewed the Cinerender Help files and while it addresses issues where transparent surfaces do not render transparent (which I understand). This however, does not correct with adjustments of the ray threshold or depth.

Any ideas?

I can't believe it was this intention, but this deformed window render is caused by Options: General Options: Sub-polygon Displacement. None of the materials in the model have displacement set but switching to medium or final render settings turns it on.

I'm really disappointed that there are so many issues with AC18. The time to render is outrageous, and the number of crashes are increasingly frustrating.

If you anyone hasn't upgraded, I would recommend that you stay away from this version until there is better stability. This version sucks.

Please report this issue and other issues you encountered as well, especially crashes and hangs, to you local reseller so they can forward it to Graphisoft who can then investigate them.
FWIW, I have not seen a huge number of complaints about AC18 crashes in the last 3 months or so on this Forum, so I would not generalize by saying "this version sucks". It can be that there is something specific to your hardware or installed software or your ArchiCAD files that causes all these issues.

I'm qualified to say "this version sucks".

I have been working with Graphisoft US off and on for the last 2 years trying to resolve everything from hangs, slow downs, crashes to rendering issues. Mostly we have been able to resolve most issues, but this version has so many problems it has me seriously considering REVit. Alternatively, I may have to abandon 18 altogether and go back to 17. The production loss from 18 is creating fiancial hardship.

We should be paid by Graphisoft when they release bugging versions like this. I bet I have lost over 100 hours trying to resolve issues that shouldn't be there.

By the way, other than the occasional email trying to sell me something, I never hear from my reseller. I have been working with GS US since my original reseller / support was forced out.

You are not qualified to say "this version sucks". That is a total generalization.
You could say "my version sucks" or "this version sucks for me" or something similar. That would be specific.

Otherwise I am sorry to hear your troubles. I hope you can find the solution for them.

The material in question must have a displacement setting enabled otherwise it wouldn't displace when you render.

When you say "switching to medium or final render settings turns it on" I think you mean you are using the scenes to change you settings.
Yes some scenes will turn the displacement on as they are supposed to be for higher quality renders which is why they take much longer.

You can select a scene and then turn the displacement off and then 'Store' that scene as a new one that you can use in future so the displacement is always turned off.
Turning displacement off will speed up the renders.
As to what other settings will affect the speed and quality and by how much I think it will be a far bit of trial and error on the individual users part as there are so many settings to take into consideration and no 2 users will have the same models, materials, methods, requirements, etc.
