Finding identical text

Frillex

Hi,

I would like to add a feature to the search and replace text.

It would be very helpful to find identical text.

Let's say I have two text block containing the same room number; 2011, the tool would select all the ones that are identical for me.

I'm quite sure that this does not exist, but if it already does, please let me know!

This feature already exists - go 'Edit > Search & Replace Text'

Cheers,

Joe

Thanks for the answer @JoeBall

I do know of the search and replace.

But as far as I know it does not work as I tried to describe.

With this tool you need to manually enter the text you are looking for.

I would like for archicad to select all the textblock with the same content.

Let's say I've received a DWG of an old office building. All the rooms have room numbers. 201, 202, 203, 204, 205 etc.

I'd like to a tool more like the select/delete duplicates. But with text. So if there is has been a mix up and someone have made two rooms with identical room number, it would be nice if archicad could select them or find them for me some how.

If I was a better programer Im sure it's an easy thing to make.

I don't think it would be easy.

We have select/delete duplicates already - only works if there are exactly the same elements in exactly the same place.

Works for any element - can't be isolated to just text.

But it will not find 2 instances of the same text in different positions.

For that we have find & replace text.

But you have to type in the text you want to find.

If you want to automatically pick up that someone has typed the same text (in your example a room number) in two different locations on a plan, then I don't think that would be easily possible.

Archicad would have to analyse every piece of text in the plan and compare it with every other piece of text, and there would undoubtedly be duplicates all over the place (not for just room numbers).

You would still have to input the text you want to check for, which is exactly what find & replace text does now.
