Graphisoft must keep developing EcoDesigner Star

There will be more added values for Archicad with EcoDesigner Star than the structural features that Graphisoft is trying to integrate in Archicad actually. I know the thermal bridge performance requirements are very high to meet and there are too many obstacles with EcoDesigner Star. The best thing to do is to put it on the market as a beta version so that we can help Graphisoft improve it.

It's about a bad idea to stop developing it!

SEO operations manager

SEO in 3d model views and other connection types really slow down the 3D model generation. It would be helpful to have a comprehensive manager to review all the SEO for determining duplicates as well as redundant types. We presently have a file where it is taking over 5 minutes to generate a standard 3d View with no shadows. Makes it impossible to work in 3d.

This finds them, but we need a list of which is the target and which is the operator. Our users often have the same operation and objects twice. We understand this is more of a BIM management type tool, but especially with Sites, the number of operations is considerable. We bring this up because we have a site mesh that has over 220 Operations. We have a roof that has over 60 operations. Paging down in the SEO widget is very challenging.

Set orientation according to North direction

In georeferenced drawings, it is very common to switch between orthogonal and north-oriented views. Having the option to quickly align the view to the north direction will save several clicks each time.

"Expand All" and "Collapse All" functions in Property Manager

Hi all, I want to post this Feature request for "Expand All" & "Collapse All" functions in the Archicad Properties.

We are always expanding our use of Properties the more we get a handle on building & using Expressions with their related & interlinked Properties.

So the Properties list becomes LOONG and tedious to scroll through. And yes I do use the search to shorten the list, but it is sometimes better to work with a Property in context of it's Properties Group (the only way to get there is scrolling / manually collapsing other groups).

I have frequently been reminded how useful these functions would have been if we had them already.

Slab edges styles

Please provide a method to edit/control the style of the slab edges.

With the complex profiles, for example.

Properties for Composites

Currently Properties can be used or Elements of the Building and for materials.

Compistes are combination of Materials that have their own Properties like maximal Fire Rating, Acustic insulation Vaues, Thermal insulation Values.

Having the ability to define Properties for Composites would allow to automate the quality of Modells.

Thanks

Gabriel

Make Modules Great Again - 3: Attribute Management

Modules are a great productivity tool to manage repetitive complex elements in Archicad, however the current Hotlink Module technology is extremely outdated and thus Archicad is lagging behind all other BIM authoring tools.

One of the key problems with modules is Attribute Management.

Currently modules carry all attributes with them and when they are placed in the host, they often create a duplicate, which then leads to documentation, and ultimately costly construction errors.

The problem:

Imagine any project type that consists of repetitive components (eg: apartment types, bathroom types, room types, kitchen types, facade types etc)

Say for example that you use the Iceberg method, mostly to try mitigate the Attribute management problems, but still, yow will encounter problems like below:

- You published your modules some time ago

- You realise that a composite had a spelling error.

- You fix the spelling error

- You, or someone else in your team updates the one module, without re publishing modules to capture the composite name change

All of a sudden, you have 2 versions of the composite. One with the incorrect spelling and one with the fixed spelling

- The team does not immediately recognise the spelling fix and the duplicate

- Someone makes changes to the composites buildup

Now you have 2 different composites with slightly different name and different buildup

If the problem is not captured immediately, you will have elements using both composites and at that point it will be very hard to tell which is the right composite.

Solution:

Option 1: Central Attribute Manager

- An attribute manager app that is independent of all project files and is capable to push attribute settings into all connected project files.

This was supposed to happen in Archicad 26, but it did not. The improvements implemented to attributes that time are wery welcome,

but without the promissed improvements and introduction of Central Attribute Management, the whole thing was a 3 legged dog.

Option 2: In place Module Management

- Modules are handled fully and instantly within the host file, without relying on externally saved .mod files

This way all attributes are fully managed in the host file, eliminating potential attribute (and library) mess.

Ability to rotate Column Segments

It would be great to have the functionality to rotate Column segments.
Below is a rare example of how it could be used, but there are no doubt tonnes of other applications.

Composites and Profiles - Classifications and Properties

We seriously need to add classification and properties to composites and to profiles.

I would much rather manage common data for one wall composite type than manage the common data in 1000 placed instances of the wall composite type.
This would be soooo BIM!

Blender - Archicad LiveLink

Hello,

We have increasing great number of Blender Community. Cinema 4D has livelink with Archicad. We request same feature for Blender also.

Allow Gates/Doors in Railings

I would like to suggest an improvement for railings when they are used as fences or wire mesh enclosures.

Currently, railings are very useful for modeling fences, but there is no straightforward way to insert a gate or door within them. It would be very helpful if it were possible to place a gate element directly into a railing, similar to how doors are placed in walls.

This would make it much easier to create complete fence systems without needing workarounds or separate elements.

Ability to Send Annotations (to "myself") from All BIMx Apps to BIMcloud / Archicad Project

We would like to request a new feature for BIMx applications (all platforms) and BIMcloud integration:

Current Situation:

  • Sending annotations ("markups") from BIMx apps to a BIMcloud project currently requires sending to other users (why?????).

  • It is not possible to send annotations to oneself (i.e., the same user who created them) within the BIMcloud / Archicad project.

  • This limitation complicates workflows where users want to directly transfer their own on-site annotations back to the project for later processing without manual export/import.

  • This is a very frequent use case: an engineer or architect goes to the site with an iPad, creates photos, drawings, and annotations, and wants to see these annotations in Archicad immediately afterwards without involving other colleagues.

Requested Feature:

  • Enable users to send annotations from any BIMx app (iOS, Android, desktop) to their own user/project in BIMcloud and Archicad seamlessly.

  • Annotations should be imported immediately and automatically into Archicad’s annotation table without unnecessary messages or user interaction.

  • If any error occurs during annotation transfer (e.g., missing privileges in BIMcloud role), the user must be clearly notified that the annotations were not transferred.

  • The system should properly handle user permissions to support this workflow.

Benefits:

  • Streamlines the annotation workflow for individual users working on-site and transferring information back to BIMcloud projects.

  • Eliminates the need for manual export and import of BCF files as a workaround.

  • Improves user experience by making annotation transfer effortless and fast.

Thank you for considering this enhancement. We believe it will significantly improve BIMx usability.

Purge option for embedded library

There should be an easy way to remove unused or unneeded objects or elements from the embedded library.

A purge routine.

Smarter layout splitting for schedules

Hi everyone!

The way Archicad handles schedules is great, but with large door and window lists, it would be awesome to have better control over how they’re spread across several layouts. Right now, when using “Split Drawing among Multiple Layouts”, the schedule just continues in one long row and splits to the next page when it runs out of space. That’s not ideal when you want a clean, readable layout with multiple rows (like a proper grid), especially on A1 sheets.

2025-06-11_14-45-25.PNG

It would be really helpful if we could combine “Restructure Drawing” (to break the schedule into rows and columns) with automatic splitting across multiple layouts. That way, the layout would look organized without having to manually filter or duplicate the schedule.

Hope this can be considered in future updates!

Classification on Composite Layers and Complex Profiles

I would like to suggest the addition of Classifications on Composite-Layers and Complex-Profiles-Layers.

Problem:

If we imagine a Composite Wall, with 25cm of Concrete and 20cm of Insulation on the outside.

ChristianMuntean_0-1747384130460.png

This is how it looks in the floor Plan:

ChristianMuntean_1-1747384140482.png

I would like my Concrete Layer to have Concrete-specific Properties that I can set only for the Concrete Layer. I also would like my Insulation Layer to have Insulation-Specific Properties.

What are examples of such Layer-specific Properties? Here are some really common ones from the IFC Data Scheme, not necessarily bound to it though, could be any Properties that someone would want only on the corresponding Layers.

  • Concrete specific Properties (Pset_ConcreteElementGeneral):
    • StrengthClass
    • ExposureClass
    • ReinforcementVolumeRatio
    • CastingMethod
    • etc...
  • Insulation specific Properties (Pset_InsulationGeneral:
    • AcousticRating
    • FireRating
    • etc...

I do not want Concrete Properties on my Insulation Layer. Same vice-versa, I don´t want Insulation Properties on my Concrete Layer. As a matter of fact I can not allow it. For any use case within a BIM project it is just not right to have properties in places where they are not meant to be. For quantity takeoffs within external software it is an absolute nightmare. Also it absolutely stands against buildingSMART Standards just as a semi-relevant side note.

Also the Ifc Entity Mapping is not correct. This example Composite-Wall should have the following IfcEntities according to their Composite-Layers:

  • Concrete:
    • IfcWall (PredefinedType: NOTDEFINED)
  • Insulation
    • IfcCovering (PredefinedType: INSULATION)

Solution:

Have each Composite-Layer listed within the Classification and Properties tab, and allow for custom classifications for each of those Layers. This is a quick UI Design of how that could look like. Please note that there are fundamental properties that are on each Layer (ID, Structural Function, Position, Renovation Status, Show On Renovation Filter) and there are also specific Properties only for that particular Layer (see "Materail properties" tab within the UI Design)

ChristianMuntean_2-1747385192838.png

(This also solves another Wish which is currently on the Roadmap: Renovation status for composite walls and complex... - Graphisoft Community. That wish is though only a specific need within my bigger wish. My wish focuses on the core problem, missing classifications on composite layers.)

Feedback and Improvements to this design and functionality are always welcome!

Cheers!

Minimal Spaces

One of the features in Archicad that I use regularly is the Minimal space feature coded in most objects and Doors. I have a problem with this valuable tool as it is underdeveloped and a pain to use. A perfect example of not paying any attention to any practical feedback and then historically ignoring the tool after release. Based on my experience, I see the following deficiencies:

1. The tool need be extended to ALL Objects. At present some of the most critical like, furnace, fireplace, heaters, etc., do not have this feature. The lack of which can cause code compliance problems.
2. Need provide a tutorial to allow the user to add this feature to user created objects. The feature mostly uses a standard macro that could be added to any object assuming the proper configuration.
3. Allow the space feature to be turned on/off on a individual object basis, based on some criteria.
4. Allow minimal space criteria to be configured in the schedules for all Objects.
5. Likewise, allow listing of spaces for each Object in schedules.
6. Allow color coding of spaces on an Object basis.
7. Allow listing of all Objects within a zone – not just a count
8. Provide a minimal space on/off shortcut key independent of the MV. Also, a toggle icon.
9. Provide minimal space criteria for critical Objects, similar to the stairs tool. Provide out-of-bounds listing warnings.
10. Provide a reset to defaults.
11. Collision detection between spaces and elements – color code collisions
12. Add 3D Minimal space display

Probably others could add more. I made a video describing my solution to automating the setting of spaces using a Excel worksheet , a Python script and an AddOn to change the Library parameters. The files can be download from my GitHub site referenced in the video. Not thoroughly tested – use at your own risk. I would be interested in any comments or additional application using the files. If you are interested, please give the video a ‘like’, if not. Please give a ‘dislike’. Your likes/dislike are the only way to communicate what features we might want to see expanded for Architecture. Please participate and not just complain.

Apply Button

Any window with an "OK" button would benefit from having an "Apply" button as well.

The "OK" button applies changes you've made in a window *and* closes the window. An "APPLY" button would apply those changes, but keep the window open. If you wanted to make another change immediately, this would save you the time of having to re-open the window and again find the property you were changing.

This is (from a user's perspective -- i don't pretend to know how to code!) an incredibly basic function, and one that would save a LOT of time.

PLEASE, Graphisoft! This is simple stuff!

Project Info and Location Settings available for IfcSite and IfcBuilding custom property mapping

It would be great if Project Info (with custom fields) and Location Settings (including the new Survey Point coordinates and Project North) would be available for custom ifc property mapping.

In Finland, new legislation for applying building permit electronically mandates the use of certain custom property sets and properties in the ifc file to be submitted to the authorities. They include stuff like Site Address, Contact details, World Coordinate values etc. The properties are mostly required in the IfcBuilding entity level, plus a few in the IfcSite. We are supposed to use a precisely defined naming format for the custom ifc property sets and properties, so that they can be automatically processed in the receiving end.

Since most of these are already present in Project Info and Location, it feels silly that we now only seem to be able to do this by manually adding these properties or via a third-party solution such as BlenderBIM or Simplebim.

Smarter Module Management: Define Your Own Anchor Point

Let’s rethink how we work with modules. Right now, modules always reference the drawing’s origin point, but how often is that actually helpful?

What if you could define your own anchor point when creating a module? Snap it to something meaningful, like the intersection of two gridlines, and that spot becomes the module’s reference. Placement becomes intuitive and precise, no more offset tweaking, flipping or endless adjustments. Just click, place and move on.

It gets even better. You can edit any placed module directly, right where it is. Save those changes under the same module name, and all instances across your project update instantly, no position shifts, just smarter updates. Everything stays where it should, but reflects the latest design.

The best part? It’s not just cleaner, it’s faster. No more repetitive work, no unnecessary re-placements, and no need to hunt down every instance manually. It’s a huge boost in efficiency, especially in larger, complex projects.

The result?

✔ Smarter, faster workflows
✔ Fully editable, in-place modules
✔ Seamless updates across the board
✔ Clean, consistent designs
✔ And no more origin-point drama

Design with freedom, edit with confidence, and work way more efficiently.
It’s time to anchor your modules where they actually matter.

Section/Elevation support for PNG alpha channel transparency in Surface Texture Cover Fills

The use of surface textures in cover fills, either 2D or applied to 3D elements in Section/Elevation is very useful.

In 3D Views, it is possible to have surfaces with (partly) transparent textures by making use of the PNG alpha channel.

robfaam_0-1743165079972.png

Unfortunately, these textures won't appear truly transparent in Section/Elevation Views.

With the Views set to show Uncut Elements as 'Surface - Texture Fill, Shaded' or 'Surface - Texture Fill, Non-shaded' with the transparency feature enabled, this inconsistent appearance emerges:

-3D Elements with surface applied to it behave transparent, but the transparent parts of the texture get a white background.

- 2D Fills using the Surface Texture Cover Fill do not behave transparent at all.

robfaam_1-1743165682176.png

To solve this issue, please support PNG alpha channels for Section/Elevation views.
