BIMx Publishing Sets

In AC17 we now have the ability to Publish to BIMx files. This looks to be a great feature when combined with BIMx Hyper-docs but I can find any user guides or supporting information on how to set the publisher set up properly.

Anyone seen a guide on this yet?

Hey there, I am having the same issue…have you figured out what the problem was yet? I have tried to change my firewall settings, even removing my firewall completely for a try, but nothing has fixed this.

Also, Lennox, I'm curious how you were able to save a copy to your desktop while the upload isn't working. Mine won't let me get to that stage until it has completed the upload. How'd you get around this?

Then, once you put it in dropbox, you were able to use that to open the file from your iPad?

For those following at home I received a reply from Graphisoft today;

"From the logs Csaba at Graphisoft has found that the problem is with the space in the username: (C:\Users\Firstname Lastname\...)

Graphisoft have corrected this issue in the code. The correction will be released in Hotfix 4.
Until then the upload will only work with a username which lacks "spaces". I hope this helps.

We apologise for the inconvenience."

So either change all of your user accounts in your offices to not use spaces in user names or wait until Hotfix 4.

I'm not sure this will be the solution to the problem.
I can publish from my laptop but can't from my desktop using exactly the same user details and even exactly the same file using the same network (internet) connection.

Thanks for sharing, Matthew. At least we know they are fixing the problem. Have you had the same problem Barry has reported?

Great! At least I already know I'm not the only one turning crazy and there will be a solution I guess pretty soon!

HI, here is another reason that could often cause an upload problem. Bimx17 desktop has to be hot fixed to min version (4005)
When you open BIMx, make sure that the opened BIMx version is the hot fixed build (min) 4005. In certain cases more BIMx versions might be present on your computer. If you are on a mac, the default application to open BIMx (upon double-clicking a BIMx file icon) might not be the latest build you have on the computer!! You can change this setting, if you select a BIMx file on your desktop and hit "commandI" (info) it will bring up a dialog where the right build can be selected. Select build number 4005, and the uploading from BIMx desktop should go undisturbed. Thanks

That makes no difference here. We are experiencing the same problem and have the correct hotfix set as default. Can save a local copy but not upload to Graphisoft. Also if we send our client a link to our locally saved updated file on Dropbox, which he then copies to iPad, the BIMx app asks him to pay for access to the model again. i wonder how Graphisoft thinks that makes us - and them - look in the eyes of a client? Rarely - if ever - have I seen a great idea so shoddily implemented!

How do we hot fix a Bimx viewer on a windows machine? Is it included in the Archicad 17 hotfix or is there a separate one specifically for bimx?

Thx for your help.

And I tend to agree, asking the client to pay is a little embarrassing and puts us in an awkward position.

Not owning an iPad/iPhone, nor being an iOS user, I haven't had the chance to try out the Hypermodel feature yet and probably most likely won't until, or when an Android version is released - so I didn't really know exactly how it worked with the pricing issue (even though I had suspected as much).

But if what you're saying is the case then it's pretty dumbfounding and bewildering to think of having to ask the client to keep paying that surcharge to get access to review any updates to the design or hypermodel, each and every time a revision is made.

It's bad enough to have them pay the initial $5 charge to access the model in the first place, but to have to keep paying for any further revisions and updates, just seems ridiculous and begs the question of what they were thinking when coming up with this charging structure.

It's almost like someone deciding to have a coin-operated coat-check at his office to give visitors coming into his office access to the coat-check, before they realize that the seating in the waiting area, the water-cooler/dispenser and the washrooms, are all coin-operated requiring them to pay a surcharge to use any of them.
You wouldn't have many clients (or visitors) coming to your office for much longer after that (or choosing to do any further business with you, for that matter)

For what is worth, what I will do when I get a project to the point were I need to share BimX with the client is to buy them the license and send it as a gift.
