Everyone,
Archicad has had no shortage of issues when it comes to publishing fonts. I found and read many articles with similar issues to mine, either with differences or no solution in the end. I have read the following articles in depth, none of which have helped yet:
So here's my issue: I use Arial mostly, and I use Oswald as a secondary font. I used to use Bahnschrift, but that's a story for another time, it had serious issues so I changed to Oswald. It's properly installed as far as I understand on both this account and the PC admin account; and this account was also made a Windows Administrator to see if that helped. Here's how it looks in Settings on Windows (below). Bold is installed twice because I've been trying to brute force it to work.
The font works great, but when publishing to PDF the font will not bold, or italicize. Refer to the following screenshots:
Image 1: You can see I am using the default Oswald font with no suffix. Changing it to any of the other options makes no difference when publishing.
Image 2: How the font looks in Archicad. Image 3: How the font looks when using Microsoft Print to PDF. Image 4: How it looks when published to PDF.
I believe this is bug or an issue with Archicad's Publisher, since it renders correctly in all other software and all other settings within and around Archicad. And since I have expounded everything I could think of or try. I think Archicad's publisher might be outdated and does not work well with most OpenType fonts. In fact, maybe it is specifically OpenType Variable fonts that have the issue... Since Arial is also an OpenType font.
Anyways, if this is not a problem due to the publisher, please let me know if anyone has any other workarounds I can try. I'm at my wit's end trying to solve this. I don't want to switch fonts yet again if I can avoid it. Even if I do, most nice fonts I'd like to use are OpenType Variable fonts and I'd be likely to have the same issues. I don't want to "Microsoft Print to PDF" and say goodbye to the smart hyperlinks and other advantages of publishing.
If this is truly a bug/issue due to an outdated publisher though... Then maybe we can get Graphisoft on board with updating the publisher in order to publish more modern font types and variants.
