I suggested that he rationalise this by reducing the number of .pmk files by saving all used attributes and layers with the .pmk file and thereafter control the layers' visibility in the layout book.
One snag: he saves the file with all window and door markers visible, but in some of his layouts in the layout book the window/door markers detract considerably from the clarity of the information.
Is there a way to suppress the door and window markers in either the .pmk or the Layout?
My suggested workaround is that he saves two .pmks for each storey, one with window markers visible, the other without them being visible.
Second issue: Is there a 'global' way to publish (print) multiple copies of layouts without setting numbers of copies in the individual layout's setting in the Publisher's options?
Thus we would set the default for each layout individually to one copy, but on the occasions when we need multiple copies we would like to be able to publish, say, six copies without having to reset the number in each individual layout's options each time we come to publish/print.
At present we publish once, repeat the process, and continue until the required number of copies has been printed. This is so time consuming, and particularly so when only selected layouts are to be printed n times!

Why still PMK?

If you are Publishing subsets, you can set the number of copies by subset; this has to be set each time.

Thanks Djordje
Why still PMK, you ask. Our staff is new to ArchiCAD, and we need the 'security' of the additional process whereby the user has to think before saving the PMK, and then, finally has to think again before updating the layout book.
