Publishing PDF or Printing as a Single File

Does any one know any way to do this? (I'm pretty sure that it's not possible but I just have to check.)

I am referring to creating a publisher set that can either save or print as a single file rather than a series of individual sheets. The problem I am having at one client's office s that their printer tracks output by job number and we have to enter it for each sheet.

This really knocks the teeth out of the idea of automatic document production. Especially since we are trying to set up the simplest possible way for PAs and principles to sets for review.

I'm a mac user. I've attached a screen shot showing the organizer - publisher window. This is set up as "Save Files". The merge option only shows up in "Save Files" and when you have the folder selected. The merge option also shows up in the navigator.. I hope this is helpful.

if I hit "publish" I do not get a PDF but just another "save"
operation of the two layouts.

John, all I would like to do is, after composing several layouts,
I would like to create one multi-page PDF of all of the sheets
in the layout book to send to a print shop or to the contractor
or to the client.

Steve, the setup you show in your image appears to be the
same as my setup. Can you make a multi-page PDF of your
layout book ? If so, how do you do it ?
BTW, how do you make a .jpg of the navigator and organizer windows ?
when I try all I get is the AC window that is behind these windows.

This setup gives me a multi-page PDf when I publish.... I don't know why it wouldn't work for you... Do you have a different project you could try to make sure it's not some strange file corruption?

I made a screen shot (apple+shift+3) which gives a PNG. I then open that in Preview and "save-as" a jpg. I think you can configure it to create a jpg directly, but PNG is usually fine... Sadly, I now realize I could have left it a PNG. It was my first attachment to this site....

Could this have to do with your OS? Your signature says you are running OSX 10.3.9. I'm running 10.4.7......

a PDF not a .png. Curious.

No the PDF/PNG thing is what made me think of the potential OS issue. That is a difference between 10.3.9 and 10.4.7. I think you can still do a "save as" from preview to make a JPG from a PDF.....

Just another save operation? Can you please expand on that? Maybe with some screenshots. Are you sure you've set your path in the Publishing Properties dialog?

I wouldn't have thought it was an OS thing - I'm sure it has worked like this for quite some time!

You figured it out !!
I checked the path in publisher and discovered
that AC had created a folder inside the folder
where the project is stored called "AC 10 test project PM"
and inside this folder is a two page PDF showing
the two layouts one per page.

I did not know about this folder creation function
when publisher properties is set to "save file".

All I can say is thank you and I apologize for my ignorance.

That's the 'Create a real folder structure' setting, mate. You need to check 'Create flat file structure' in the Publishing Properties dialog.

Glad we finally figured it out. I was about to go hunt down a flogger next.
