Text/Autotext Label -Can not edit Text Content from the tool's settings dialogue

I used to edit my text labels's content which is same by selecting them all via find&select and opening the "text label" from dropdown menu in the settings dialogue. This was very useful for finding labels which have the same text content from tons of labels and changing all at once at a single time. Now it seems I can not edit from settings dialogue. Instead, I have to find every label and click-edit one by one manually. Or... Again, click one by one with inject parameters tool.

I mean, this area (Label Text) was open for typing. Now, it's locked.

 I don't have an idea what caused this. If this is due to removed features of new versions, it's very unhelpful.

Was that many versions ago?

Maybe before it was an "Auto-text" label?

Was there something before auto-text labels? - I can't remember.

An 'Auto-text" label has never been able to be edited it the settings dialogue that I am aware of, only by editing the text itself.

I just checked version 22 (the oldest one I have running) and that is certainly the case there.

Other labels can be edited in the settings, just not auto-text.

It was never for typing. Just tested it again in 26 and 29. No difference there.

This feature existed a few versions ago and was very useful.

It has disappeared since then, I don’t know which version.

A practical thing that has disappeared, too bad!

I vaguely remember a text label being editable, but I have gone back to version 22 (8 years) and can't see it.

Even if it was in an old version I think it was a built-in label like the auto-text label is now.

So unlike the other labels, it can not be copied over as a library object.

If anyone can remember what it was, I will happily look into it.

I am sure on this because I intentionally use "Label" tool instead of "Text" tool for identifying something (eg. material specs) because we had the option to change them all like I said unlike Text tool's abilities.

Here is a screenshot, it's from AC19 (Build 3003-INT). As you can see, that area is totally open for typing.

Edit :  I just realised, in 19 there is no sent like "auto". Label type says just "text", not "text/autotext". I guess some parameters altered along the way.

You could probably replace the workflow now with Keynotes. It serves as a database for text (and their keys/names of course) and you can edit it on fly in whole project without the need to select any labels.

I find it unuseful since we have to open a less-used dialog box (unlike settings dialog) and find what we want to change from a large database. Also text contents are not directly bounded to "key :" line. If I edit the label's text content by double-clicking, "key" value still remains the same so there is no point.

This option existed up to Archicad 20, and I personally didn't use it.

Starting with Archicad 21, many automatic text fields were added. That's certainly the reason for this change.

Given these Labels are all Label Objects, does extracting the old Text Label and loading that into your current AC work? Since GDL has not changed very much since, as long as it is not relying on a whole heap of legacy macros... Or is the Base Label special and an integrated part of the tool?

ps. Just looked through the AC29 library, as well as the AC20 and AC18 ones loaded into 29 and I think the Base Label, "Text / Autotext" for 29 and "Text" for 20 are an integrated part of the tool and not an independant Label Object... Unfortunate... Probably why they are seperated from the rest of the labels in the toolbar dropdown...
