I would try to use the converter to update to the earliest version that AC17 can use, then use 17 to bring it forward.

So, it seems that the only solution is to run Archicad 7 on an older Macintosh, maybe a G4.

Not that you're suggesting I am, but just to just say I wasn't necessarily complaining regarding the dongle (I hope it didn't read like that?). I totally understand that sometimes things just need to move on and technology can't be infinitely backwards compatible.
Anyway as we know from below/above, the file converter page looks like it has everything you need to get those dusty files open🙂
