"Continue in Detached Mode"???

what is the purpose of this command? state? phase?
I mean...if I'm in a Hotlinked multiple TW file, and I continue in detached mode.....what's the point?

I can't send my changes to the server? I can't make my copy reconnect and re-synchronize with the copy on the server.....so what is even the point of this command?

We find it worthless in our office.
9 times out of 10 we simply need to discard changes and lose work......GS please advise.
