Multiple AC files open

It would be very helpful to be able to open more than one AC file at a time. Cutting and pasting would be much faster if this was possible.

I know you can make multiple copies of the program, but that is a hack the Graphisoft has taken advantage of for much long now. Aren't we on v8.1 now?

If you agree with this or any whishlist item, let your reseller know, they have Graphisofts ear!

Robert,

You can. I always have at least two open, sometimes up to four, precisely to enable cutting, pasting and editing modules. Just try it by clicking on the AC icon. The limiting factor is the amount of RAM available.

FYI, in OS X (AC version 8 or 8.1) you can do this by creating a duplicate copy of the ArchiCAD application.

FYI, read my post again, I know you can make multiple copies, I stated it in my original post. My point is that the solution you suggest, and apparently Graphisoft thinks is acceptable, is a work-around that consumes precious storage space and RAM. Could you imagine if you had to make a copy of PhotoShop or Word everytime you needed multiple documents open from the same program.

The trouble with so many of these bulletin boards is to many people like to respond to something other than what the original post addresses.

Lets stick to the subject "wishes" that result in REAL programming solutions, not work-arounds :idea

I agree with you there rm. Mac Users have to sacrifice resources for something as basic as opening multiple files. At least windowsusers can open archicad several times without having to copy the application but IMHO opening multiple files with the app only opened once is a basic and liable request.

rm,

I agree with your wish (accessing and working in multiple project files in the same single ArchiCAD session).

The main hurdle that GS faces is the concept of having to "Load Libraries" of Objects, Add-Ons, database information, etc. for each file that is being accessed. This would make it very difficult for a single session of AC to function. Just imagine having two or more files with individually unique libraries loaded and trying to switch between the different files, let alone pass information between them.

I'm not trying to give GS any excuses. Just understanding how the program functions helps to think of ways to streamline it. This wish is somewhat dependent on another wish... Is there a way to have ArchiCAD function without the need to "Load Libraries".
