Hi. We are currently experiencing slow navigation (zooming, placing text, dimensions) when doing worksheets. Our typical workflow is:
For Blow-up Plans (Toilet Details, other details with larger scale than our plans and will only require a portion of the plan):
After placing the blow-up views, we trace the layout on a separate worksheet then from there, we place our dimensions. This Worksheet will now be placed on top of the Traced Layout so we can have a separate view showing only text, tags and dimensions instead of placing it on the model space.
Since Archicad 27, we cannot do this anymore efficiently due to the "short" stops. Even when panning or selecting text when using worksheet with trace reference, this happens. Worksheets with Trace Reference becomes so slow.
We did not encounter this on all the previous versions we had since AC18. Do you guys know a quick solution for this or had encountered this?
Thank you!

So problem solved by changing GPU.
From Radeon RX 570 to (older and weaker) GeForce GTX 750 Ti.

Hi, i.m also joining to the debate. Having problems with AC28, something that we never had with AC26.
The workaround about matching layer set makes it better, but in some occasions this is just not a good solution - we DO have different settings occasionally that has to be traced.
Note that I experience it with Intel processor, not AMD.
GPU is maybe the weakest hardware at me - I was hoping though to use it for a couple of more years!
Archicad 28.1.1 (4100) NOR Full (x86-64)

I have not re-read through the entire post to see what was suggested.
But as you have a laptop, it has a built-in video card as well as the RTX card.
In the operating system settings for display > graphics, browse for the Archicad.exe file and tell it to use 'high performance'.
Then see what happens when you re-start.
I can't guarantee it will work, but might be worth trying.

Hi Barry,
thanks for the suggestion, and while I believe it was generally a good idea to make these changes in the settings, it has not solved the original problem with the traces, unfortunately.
The workaround about matching layer combinations makes it better (although not *perfect*), but in *most of* the occasions this is just not a good solution.
It.s impossible to create a copy of each worksheets and drawings with all the different settings that has to be traced.

A related issue has been discussed in this forum. We tried the solution to inactivate the new graphic method introduced a couple of Archicad versions ago. It helped for navigating complex 2d drawings. See this post: Solved: ARCHICAD 27 - Slow zoom and pan - Graphisoft Community

Karl, after the first tests i have to say this WAS a solution! 🙂
Thank you very much for the help!
I can sleep better now! 😄

What's the trade off one should ask. I did the registry hack and while some may have found 2D navigation an improvement, I'm not seeing it in the on-screen 2D quality. Maybe it's these older PC's & GPU but everything gets real fuzzy with the registry hack.

Mark, I haven't noticed any fuzzy graphics after changing the rendering API. If you haven't already, try switching off the 2d drawing antialiasing. This will make your graphics sharper, especially when zoomed out.
Go to Options -> Work Environment -> Advanced Redraw Options and uncheck 2D Drawing Antialiasing.

Indeed the DirectX upgrade was supposed to increase the quality of graphics especially in high resolutions like 4K+
The difference is obvious.
The problem is that this quality increase came with a speed/response decrease because some how Archicad is not using the GPU as it should and still depends on CPU.
