Labels in 19

So is there a way to get the 'New and Improved' crazy making label tool to behave like the old label tool. I'm just trying to write out plain old text notes in a 2d 'unlinked from the model' section window.

The dragging, copying, and orienting of the new label tool 19 is driving me nuts.

I just want to point and something and write out text.. but they're always backwards, or require 8 different clicks and key strokes to get lined up right.

Hating that the text positions just like the previous one without 'asking' where I want to put it, requiring mirroring, dragging, arrow repositioning, etc. to get it back to a rational place.

I assume I'm missing something, otherwise this tool is buggy or poorly designed.

No problem in this case GS was aware of the previous workflow and was able to do the full transition to the new system. What is weird is why they hid the command so deep, time to add it to my toolbars and add a shortcut to it.

For this you need to look at the second button in the Geometry Method info box tile. 'Simple' gives one-click placement of the pointer, with the default shape. (This shape is picked up by the eyedropper.) 'Detailed' gives three clicks to define the shape. To place simple labels with custom pointers, you want Independent, Detailed, and the Text label type.

Personally, I can't see using Simple very often.

Well, Labels had Pointers (or Leader, as they called in other software) even in AC18. In AC19 there are new options to specify the Pointer Starting Angle and also lock it, and also there is a new option for the Pointer shape. Plus the Pointer ON/OFF button is new. In AC18 you had the "Use Symbol Arrow" checkbox in the Symbol Label panel of the Label Settings Dialog using which you could turn OFF the Pointer. However, it was available only when using a Symbol Label (GDL Object-based Label). The option to turn off the Pointer was not available when using simple text Labels.
In AC19 it is now possible to turn the Pointer ON/OFF with any kind of Label.

I had given up trying to use the label tool because I didn't want the arrow or leader line, so this is a welcome new feature in 19!

Use detailed label instead of simple and it will work like the old label used to (referring to the text label)

I'm still on the fence about the new labeling system. Its better but I'm not sure it does everything it used to.

In Archicad 18 the labels would show up on all the storeys an element showed up on when linked to it (like a column). This is VERY USEFUL for me. This feature seems to have disappeared? Anyone know a workaround?

You are right, this is not possible automatically in ARCHICAD 19.
I think this has to do with the fact that this is a different technological solution than the previous solution.
Prior to AC19 having a Label was a setting of the individual elements. For example, in the Column Settings Dialog you checked the Label Element checkbox and its label appeared on all stories the Column appeared. That was not a flexible solution either, because what if you wanted your multi-story Column to appear on 3 stories, but wanted its Label to appear only on 1 story? It was not possible to do.

In ARCHICAD 19 the Label is an independent element which you can either associate with a construction element or not. You have to place Labels individually in each different Viewpoint, but this gives you the flexibility to have them only in the Viewpoints you want.

I think your best option in the future is to do your Labeling in one step for many elements at a time. For example, set the default Label settings in its Dialog or pick up the parameters of a placed Label, then select all Columns you wish to Label and use the Document\Document Extras\Label Selected Elements to label them all in one step in that Viewpoint or Story.

I've read this whole post and have tried all the suggestions. I am still experiencing a very large box around my independent text and so the leader line is quite far away from the actual text. I am unable to drag the edges of the box in any closer...it just makes my text into 2 lines, with the same wide standoff. I'm using independent, detailed. Labels look OK at a very large scale (1/4" = 1') but look very confusing (text here, arrow over there) at a small scale ( 1" = 40') Any suggestions? Thank you!

In the Label's Settings dialog box > Text Style panel > Frame, make this a smaller value.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.
