If so... "Drawing manager" may help:
Window> Palettes> Drawing Manager (or icon in Navigator window)
"Status" lists the drawings as: OK, Modified, Needs checking, etc.

But, did you want to see which drawings (in your layout books) have been updated, without opening each layout?
I do agree with your wish. The ability to color code folders in the layout book would be a great addition. Like apple has in finder.
