Building material horizontal scroll

Would it be possible to create a horizontal scroll bar when selecting building materials? Or make it possible to widen the selection menu.

Right now it's quite trial-and-error to select the correct building material, since the names are too long for the view.

Thank you!

The width of the dialogue is probably based on the available width of your screen real estate.

This single column list is new in 26, so I don't think it will change.

Don't forget you have a search field at the top - because of the single column.

You can type anything you like and it will find the match no matter where it is in the material name (doesn't have to be the first letters of the name).

Hi Barry, thanks for the reply.

I know I can use the search bar (which is a big improvement), but for this purpose it's not that efficient. I recieve a generic building material id from the architect (e.g. 16.12) and I need to select the right subtype based on the thickness of the material (e.g. insulation of 150mm is 16.12.70). Using the search bar would mean I have to retype the full name...

However, may I ask what screen(s) you are working on? I have two 27inch screens and even when I spread Archicad on both screens, the width of the selection menu stays the same. I am wondering how you get it this wide.

Yes, unfortunately you can not sort by the ID, only the name.

As for my screen, I have a standard resolution 24" monitor running at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

100% screen scaling in the operating system settings.

The monitor size should not make a difference - it is exactly the same on my laptop which I think is about 16", with the same screen resolution and 100% scaling.

Hi Barry,

I still do not get how it would be "based on the available width of your screen real estate", since this selection menu stays the same width even if all pallettes are undocked.

What is your screen resolution and if you are on Windows, are you scaling at more than 100%?

My screen resolution is 1920x1200 (recommended) and scaling is 100%. I tried 1920x1080 to replicate your settings, but it does not make a difference...

1920 should be wide enough.

1200 or 1800 will just affect the height - 1200 will be better.

With my video card I don't have that option.

Here is an image of my entire screen setup.

Why not let to user the possibility to choose in its interface preference how many coloms the selection list should have ?

You mean like the software industry standard of allowing the user to pick which columns to display, their width, their order and which are used for sorting? That gets my vote. 👍
