Expression based properties compatibility with Hotlinks

Currently in Archicad, Expression based properties are unavailable to elements contained in hotlinks (they show up as "---" values in schedules and are unavailable for evaluation in the Property Manager. This is a serious flaw and undermines many of the recommended workflows in housing projects, for example. We need to be able to consistently use expression based properties on all elements.

In our office, we make modules out of recurring apartment types, to streamline modelling and ensure consistency across the project. To not be able to use expression based properties in schedules for any of these apartments makes either modules or properties completely useless.

Need of component properties in expressions

It's a headache when it comes to calculations of building materials. It is possible to access building material component volume in Archicad. However, to automate the process, I cannot use the component properties in the expression editor. I always have to depend on Excel. When I have a composite it becomes a horror film.

I was calculating quantity requirements for Reinforced concrete. I use thumb rules and calculate. it works on the whole element. but when I have a composite, I have no chance of using the expression with the component volume.
please make it a priority.

U-Value Calculation in Labels & Centralised Custom Physical Properties for Materials

I’d like to see Archicad provide the ability to display U-values directly on labels or automate them through properties, using the assigned physical properties of composites and complex profiles. This would greatly streamline energy performance assessments and documentation.

Additionally, while Archicad currently allows users to add custom physical properties, these are project-specific and must be recreated for every new project. It would be highly beneficial to have a centralised material property manager or library where custom physical properties can be stored and shared across multiple projects. This would increase efficiency, maintain consistency, and expand the available material database for future use.

These features would enhance workflows for energy analysis, compliance reporting, and material specification. I’d love to hear if others see the benefit of this as well!

Use bsDD translation for IFC content

Hi,

BuildingSmart has this "crowdsourced" translation project going on https://buildingsmart.crowdin.com/ifc.

In some countries like Finland there's an overlapping public Sanastot -vocabulary work ongoing as open project too. In some this "voluntary/ open source" work is done by government body, in some by local BuildingSmart.

Once further, the bsDD work enables to load translations of IFC contents as a " (bsDD) library" to software/solution. For example to Archicad+MEP Designer if support for it would be implemented.

This would enormously benefit the everyday use of objects and IFC, with local language, naming conventions and content support.

It would also take burden from GS as Archicad, MEP, localizations would benefit from market contribution too.

So, vote for this one, please!

Non-printing option for layer controls

It would be great if there was a non-print option for layers, not just show/hide.

Sometimes it's great to be able to see things when you're working, but don't want them to show on the finished layout.

Other programs have this feature and it's helpful for creating construction guidelines and workings without having to delete them every time, or be able to keep them for future reference or adjustments. You can also hide or show the layer, but regardless if it's showing, you know it won't ever print.

Rotate objects with single click

Can you allow library objects to be rotated with a single click please, such as kitchen units, furniture, etc, as listed in the product roadmap.  This would be highly useful.

MEP Elements 2D / 3D Preview on Schedules

As part of the awesome features of Archicad is the way to extract or show native 2D / 3D previews for each elements on Schedules.
Since Archicad 27, MEP elements aren't capable to show this previews. Instead you get a blank cell. This is sad.
Why loosing an awesome feature with a "hopefully. near future" awesome MEP Modeler?

This is important due to:

  1. Gives to the viewer, designer, reviser and client the capability to know wich element is beign extracted
  2. Gives the designer to take notes over the preview 2D / 3D cells (as you can do on Door or Window schedules)
  3. Communication is important, so graphical communication is a distinctive of Archicad. Please mantain that.

export/import all Projekt XML-files at once

The ability to export and import all XML files at once would greatly improve coordination between Archicad files, especially in projects split into different files.

In these projects, it's not only important to keep the attributes in sync but also the project info, graphical overrides, layout book fields, IFC and DWG exporters, etc. It would also help with Template migration

Currently, there are at least 20 different places where XMLs can be exported in Archicad, and each one has to be done manually for each file!

When exporting and importing:

  • It would be important to select which XMLs need to be exported (out of a list).
  • The export should be packaged (perhaps as a zip file).
  • When importing, it should be possible to view a list of the XMLs going to be imported and decide whether to append or overwrite existing options.

Thanks

Add Attribute Index Numbers to Search Bar

I've been round long enough to know Pen 1 is black, Line 1 is Solid and Fill 1 is Backgr... wait brickwork??

The point I'm trying to make here is, the search bar is the best thing since sliced bread for Archicad, so let's add Index numbers to the search. That way I can use 1 hand on the mouse and NumPad and leave the other one free for a bit of CTRL+Shift+D action if you get my drift!

Layer Combination rules

In our localized template made by our local Graphisoft partner, we have a layer combination that is named "ALL ON." However, when a user creates a layer... It's not automatically ON on "ALL ON" layer combination. Also, we cannot tie the whole folder with layers inside to a layer combination. Meaning, if we have a MEP layer folder, and we want to turn on all MEP layers with a layer combination, we have to look for newly added layers to make sure that they are on in the previously created layer combination.

What I'm suggesting is something similar to this:

rakurs_0-1754042640361.png

It would mean that this folder's content are ALWAYS ON on a specified layer combination, whether it gets new layers later or some layers shuffled around. Maybe the "lock" icon I drew isn't perfect because on the right side, it would also need a "LOCKED lock" which might be confusing, but this graphical representation of the idea is the first thing that crossed my mind.

Editing Complex profile with "Trace as Reference"

"Trace as Reference" drawing when editing Complex profile, so section or another active drawing will be shown in background of Complex profile editor. This way you can easily adjust complex profile to fit to drawing. Drawing must be placed in same position as it was in active plan/section/façade view, so you will have feeling that you editing complex profile in project not in separate editing space.

Custom Image Property for Objects - to help FFE schedules

I guess most architects came across the need to produce Fixtures, Fitting and Equipment schedules.
These schedules can 90% be produced from Archicad, since we need to place the relevant elements into the model for documentation purposes anyway.

The floor plan symbol and 3d/ elevation representation of elements such as Wash basins, taps etc are good enough for documentation, but for schedules, typically we would like ton add an image of the actual product.

It would be great if there was an "Image Property" that could be applied to the objects.

I know that the preview image of the objects can be changed, but that would change it in all projects that use the Archicad libraries.
Creating new project specific objects just to get the image right is a bit of an overstretch.

The below image represents a typical FFE schedule that we need to produce.

Apart from the images, everything comes from the model.
Unfortunately the images had to be added in the Layout Book.
(Which means that if the schedule changes, the images must be adjusted manually)

Graphic Override by Layer Folder

It would be great if Graphic Overrides could be assigned to Layer Folders so that all layers within a specific folder can be overridden at once.

Symbolic view for complex profile walls

Complex profile walls can have many fills stacked above one another or even varying thicknesses to the wall at different heights - unlike a standard composite wall.
However in plan we don't have a "symbolic" floor plan display option.
We have to use the 'Projected' or 'Cut only' displays, which means we must rely on the actual 'Floor Plan Cut Plane' height to display those walls correctly.
This creates a problem when you want to display different heights of different walls or you have other elements that rely on the FPCP height.

Obviously because of the many varied fills and thicknesses, we would then need a way to nominate the default cutting plane height in the complex profile settings so we can get the correct (or desired) cut view of the complex profile.
This nominated height would be used as the 'Symbolic' cut of the wall.

So my wish is for a 'Symbolic' floor plan display view for complex profile walls.

Using building materials properties in element properties

In order to create a simple column schedule, I need to access the properties of the building material (eg. density or unit price) to calculate some properties of the column (the weight or the price, respectively). The material properties are not accessible...

Schedule Display orders for easy editing & sorting

It would be fantastic to have a way of scheduling or listing the display order of everything so you can easily go to one location and sort everything onto the right display level.
Currently its so hard to keep track of this using only the element information palette.
New items you copy dont go onto the same level as the item you copied, they always seem to be placed at level 8? eg the settings dont come across when duplicating elements.
There is no simple way to check the display order without selecting each element (is there?!).

We try to follow display order rules set by our office and it would just help so much to have a way of sorting and easily editing these.

Dynamic Hotlinked Modules (modifiers in modules)

There is a lot of times that I wish that we had dynamic elements of a module. Like how we have Modifiers on Custom Profiles. There is an option to do that now with Design Options inside the module, but it is not flexible enough in my opinion. We already have a flexible option for height (Element Elevation's, offset, top link...) - this could be an add on to this.

For example (very basic):

I have a room that has a door. That room needs to be placed on several different positions in my project so I am using a hotlink module. But that door needs to be on different positions in regards to the other rooms. I could do that with design option but on a large building that uses parametric design elements, it s not practical. It would be a lot easier if we could just have a parameter inside the module properties that is defined like a modifier in Custom Profiles - i just type in the distance that I need in that specific situation. Or if I need that exact room but streched (moving one wall and streching a zone). This is a simple example but I can see a lot of possibilities.

Also, if you colud connect that properties (modifiers) to grasshopper - that would be awesome.

I made a little mock up of the settings - I also added Classification and Properties that is in my other wishlist.

Master Properties for Hotlinked modules

We should have the possibility to use and set certain properties for hotlinks as a whole, similar to how there are properties for building materials specifically.

We have master ID - we should also have master properties.

For example:

I am using the iceberg method to create apartment modules (let’s name them M1, M2, M3, M4...). These apartments are placed in my building in different positions. To create a schedule that lists the number of apartments using module M1/M2/M3... in only part of my building (for example, dilatation 1), I currently need to either create a module of the whole dilatation (an extra step) or manually edit the master IDs of my hotlinks te somehow represent that distinction (and that is just one distinction - we often have a dozen of them that are something that is only a property change). This would be much easier if we had an option to set a property for the whole module.

With such an option, you could also have, for example, a hotlink module M1 with the property “fire zone 1” and another with the property “fire zone 2,” without the need to create two separate hotlinks.
