Users shortcuts cutomization

Let the possibility for users to customize their own shortcuts based on one or more letters, e.g. D (for Drag) DD (for Drag a Copy) DDD (for Drag Multiple Copies).

FYI, one letter shortcuts have always been available.

You can use CTR, CMD, ALT, SHIFT to modify them so:

• d = drag
• Shift d = drag copy
• CTRL d = drag multiple (avoiding the 3 digit "shortcut')

FYI, on a PC the standard is:

 CTRL + D for Drag,

when in Drag mode...

tap the CTRL key turns it into Drag a Copy, tap the CTRL key again it changes back to Drag.

tap the ALT key turns it into Drag Multiple Copies, tap the ALT key again it changes back to Drag.

 CTRL + E for Rotate,

when in Rotate mode..

tap the CTRL key turns it into Rotate a Copy, tap the CTRL key again it changes back to Rotate.

tap the ALT key turns it into Rotate Multiple Copies, tap the ALT key again it changes back to Rotate.

 CTRL + M for Mirror,

when in Mirror mode..

tap the CTRL key turns it into Mirror a Copy, tap the CTRL key again it changes back to Mirror.

remember to look for the + or  ++ on the cursor to see if its copy or multiple copies mode.

I can't support this wish, as shortcuts as described by Eduardo are one-handed, quick and easy... and can be similarly customized.   The problem with allowing something like D, DD and DDD is that in order for the product to properly detect what's going on... there would have to be a needless (small) delay while Archicad would be waiting to see if another letter was pressed before the action could be taken.  With the standard shortcut concept of a letter possibly modified by modifier keys, actions are instantaneous.

ArchiCAD is not a command line system like ACAD... is there an issue with using modifier keys?

agreed -- i would not prefer the command line system.

depending on what the office is using for their workstations, i'd rather get a much better keyboard & assign macros for my most used ones.

I know all about shortcuts, my question was only on the possibility to activate a tool more straight than pressing Shift or Cmd or Alt then a letter. This is a wish some users return sometimes. You wrote "…Archicad would be waiting to see if another letter was pressed before the action could be taken."  I didn't know about that thanks for your clear answer, nonetheless they are some shortcuts like M for "Mesure" or O to open the option dialog of a tool that are quick to execute, but you mean if we had to type more than one letter in a row this would lead to delay the action.

Exactly.

Single key shortcuts are fine and can be used now.

But if you were to have multiple same key shortcuts, how long should Archicad wait for you to press the same key 2 or 3 times?

If the time allowed is too fast, some people may not activate the shortcut in time.

If the time allowed is too slow then it will just be annoying.

The same logic apply to MacOS (CMD+D, CMD+D OPT, CMD+D CMD+OPY), but I was giving an example of what @Picard could switch to.
